Joe Hertz shares skateboarding-inspired video for 'One Sided'

July 27, 2019

Landing with his third single of the year and gaining huge momentum after playing sets at Lovebox and Wireless 2019, Joe Hertz hits us with a sun-washed visual for his dreamy new single 'One Sided' featuring UK R&B talent Kaleem Taylor. Filmed in Malta, the Aoife Blair-directed video sees two skateboarders making their way through the sunkissed terrain alongside the ocean, horses and rockeries; glares and windswept scenes creating a romantic visual that perfectly compliments the single’s sonics.

Joe explains: “I grew up going to ibiza with my family a lot. I was too young at the time to fully appreciate everything the island had to offer, but as a kid we used to go out skating around and exploring the island. It has always been a time of nostalgia that I go back to when I’m tapping into a certain type of feeling in the studio. I wanted this video to portray that sense of freedom and love between friends, and transport you to a blissful moment away from your normal surroundings. During this creative process we discovered these two amazing Maltese skater kids, Owen + Brandon, who are good friends. We decided to travel out and shoot them on their island of Malta, as they know it so well and has a similar scenic feel to ibiza.”

Speaking on the track, Joe states: “The track’s been something I started last year in a jam session with Luke Wynter who plays bass for my live show. It just had that uplifting vibe which Is what we were looking for... Fast forward a couple weeks and when I finally got in the studio with Kaleem I played a couple instrumentals and he just gravitated towards the idea. Working with Kaleem is mad because he’s so natural at coming up with hooks and melodies. He nailed the main idea in a couple takes. I also sent the track out to a brass trio called triple horns who have been getting involved on my last few releases..it just adds a level of depth to what I’m trying to achieve with my music. Getting more live instruments on my tracks is something that I’m really excited about.”
