Apart from a few news articles, I don't think we ever featured a Russian artist, but with this one, that's about to change. Drop Sensei crew kept doing what they do best, throwing a huge Halloween party, headlined by Russian neurofunk sensation Gydra. Considering the rise of the group in the past year or two, and even the award for the Best International Producer at Checz and Slovak DNBA, this show was one to visit.
On this occasion, we had to do something I always hated to do - come just before the headliner, and leave just minutes after. Quite a hard one, especially with Synchronicity on the bill, but I have no doubt there'll be time to fix it. The rest of the lineup consisted of RTC, Rcallz and our longtime friends - Drop Sensei DJs themselves. At the moment we arrived at the sold out and the insanely hot venue - I think nobody expected 27' C in the late October, so the air conditioning wasn't at it's best - the club was already full, and the party in full swing. Another familiar face on the stage - MC Bo_JAH was doing what he does best - spitting the rhymes, and pumping the crowd up.
Not that he had a lot of work, however. Since the moment Gydra hit the stage, the beast was unleashed. Starting with Scooter's (yes, THAT Scooter) 'The Logical Song' he instantly fired up the crowd, raising the temperature even more. Dropping banger after banger, including the massive René LaVice collaboration 'Cold Crush' main guest of the evening proved the reputation the group earned. Along with the heavy selection, he didn't hesitate to throw some melodic stuff to mix things up - I can't remember the last time I heard 'Hot Right Now' in someone's set. The crowd seemed to absorbe every beat coming from the stage, so I can easily see Gydra coming back in the future.
Personally, I am not the biggest fan of the group's music as I prefer a bit more melody, but I sure admire the craft. Top-notch production, great mixing, and selection skills were more than enough for another successful Halloween party.
P.S. Shout out to Tim Curry's Pennywise in the back, you were creepy as fuck.
