Hot off the back of a massive RTRN II JUNGLE Stage and headline slot at Bristol’s Love Saves The Day Festival, one of the UK’s most successful D&B acts Chase and Status today unveil their highly anticipated album 'RTRN II JUNGLE.' Written over the last year in both London and in Jamaica in the island’s historic Big Yard Studios, this album sees the beloved trio take their sound back to their underground roots. Spanning over 12-tracks, they have collaborated with some of old school jungle and modern dancehall’s biggest vocal legends including Suku, General Levy, Irah, Natty Campbell, Kabaka Pyramid, Masicka, Cutty Ranks, Burro Banton and New Kidz to deliver a superb new collection of irresistibly soulful, raw and uncut jungle, adding a 2019 mark to the genre’s rich history.
Celebrating over 15 years in the game, since the album’s announcement last year and recent release of hard hitting, infectious singles 'Program' feat. Irah and 'Murder Music' feat. Kabaka Pyramid, the project has received high praise from key media and tastemakers. Earlier this month, to celebrate the impending release the trio held a live stream at one of London’s former longest running dance music record stores, the legendary Black Market Records in Soho. Now a barber’s shop, Chase & Status (alongside Nicky Blackmarket himself) restored the space to its former musical glory for one night only.
Through the release of the album, Chase and Status are looking to inspire a cultural movement; bringing back British music and fashion of the golden years of Jungle music from the mid-late 90’s. The sound, project and accompanying documentary and installation, draw on Jungle music whilst also transporting it into the present day, and revamping the genre for the modern day music fan.
“Now is time to look forward to the future - we want to create and spearhead a new cultural movement.” said Saul Milton, while Will Kennard added: “We will be representing DnB at it’s most soulful, raw, and uncut level.”
A huge moment for the trio, 'RTRN II JUNGLE' marks fifteen years since the group started releasing music and touring the world. With this landmark moment in mind, Chase And Status have gone back to their roots and their passion - Jungle music. The genre that sculpted their career in the 90’s is back, and will be re-crafted in an authentic way. Instead of sampling Dancehall, the group have gone back to Jamaica - creating their own new music to sample, and forging an organic and irresistible sound.
Chase and Status are Will Kennard, Saul Milton and MC Rage. They are one of the most successful British bands of the past decade. Their groundbreaking debut album ‘More Than A Lot’ is certified Gold, and was followed by sophomore album ‘No More Idols’ - the second best-selling UK album by a British band in the year of its release. Having now surpassed double platinum status, ‘No More Idols’ included the smash hit UK top 5 single ‘Blind Faith’ featuring Liam Bailey, as well as UK top 10 ‘End Credits’ featuring Plan B. Chase and Status’ third studio album ‘Brand New Machine’ debuted at no. 2 in the album charts and spawned two top ten singles for the band.
